Crown thinning involves the removal of the smaller branches within crown of the tree to reduce the density of the crown. Crossing and rubbing branches are removed to prevent further damage to the cambium (bark). It results in improved light levels passing through the canopy thus reducing shading. It reduces the wind resistance of the crown and can slightly reduce the loading upon the limbs of the tree. Crown thinning does not alter the overall size or shape of the tree, we can also do Crown reduction, Crown lifting.
The removal of dead tree branches greatly improves the safety of people and property below. Trees naturally produce deadwood as branches die and decay, indeed in an area of untravelled woodland this provides excellent wildlife habitat. Unfortunately deadwood branches have a tendency to fall out of trees and above public areas, roads or gardens this can be a hazard. Having a tree cleaned of deadwood greatly reduces the hazard to those below.
Hedge cutting and trimming of Laurel, Beech and Leylandi hedges maintains their shape, reduces shaded areas, allows more light into the garden and lessens possible adjoining neighbour disputes. We can expertly shape and trim both small domestic hedges and large overgrown examples and can also include height reduction of the hedge as required. We also specialize in Hedge Laying
Using our modern equipment we can clear sites of trees and undergrowth quickly and efficiently. We have cleared large sites prior to construction works taking place for building contractors. We have also cleared areas to simply extend a property boundary or clear an over grown garden.
Removing all the branches to leave a bare frame or in some cases just a pole. The pollarding process is only suitable for a few species of trees, most commonly willow. Trees rejuvenate quite quickly and will require similar treatment at regular intervals. Pollarding is a very good way to maintain the size of trees that grow very quickly and will produce a great natural shape.
Once a tree has been felled the stump remains and can be a hazard or an eye sore. We can remove the stump using a mechanical grinder. This has a large rotating wheel with many teeth which grind the stump down well below ground level, removing the root ball and any surface roots.Tree stumps and tree roots can be ground into chippings. .
Coppicing is an ancient form of woodland management, that involves repetitive felling on the same stump, near to ground level, and allowing the shoots to regrow from that main stump.
Tree Pruning No single operation is usually sufficient to maintain a tree; it is a combination of techniques that are chosen for the individual trees requirements. We also do Formative Pruning, We use this method in the early years of a tree’s growth, to create a good branch structure and desirable form, or to correct defects or weaknesses..
Felling dead, dying or diseased and damaged trees is part of the management cycle whether this makes an area safer or allows other stronger trees to thrive.
